About Allyson

Allyson Wendt has been playing with language ever since she came home from school and made a picture hang crooked on the wall so she could use the word “askew.” A varied career path—from the circus to graduate school to a green building publication—has given her a unique lens on the world as well as an appreciation for writing style, grammar, and punctuation.

As managing editor of Environmental Building News, Allyson wrote feature articles on a variety of topics related to green building, from the integrated design process to social justice to prefabrication. She also wrote dozens of news stories and resource reviews. In addition to the writing, Allyson edited others’ pieces and oversaw content creation and layout.

Now Allyson is a freelance writer, editor, and proofreader who works from her home in Brattleboro, Vermont. Her interests tend toward sustainability topics, such as green building, renewable energy, organic gardening, and local food. She is also a weaver (under the label Warp | Weft)  and a mother.
